Description
LED transformer 320W 24V
Waterproof, well-protected and robust LED transformer 320W 24V, which is perfectly suitable for 24 V DC LED strips. The GV6 series 320 watt is a similar power package compared to the GLSV series. The height of this transformer is 42 mm and the length is 97 mm. This is very suitable for larger LED installations, for example when there is a lot of indirect lighting . Regarding safety, there is overheating protection, short-circuit protection, overvoltage protection and overload protection. That’s how it should be!
Dimming LEDs
This transformer cannot be dimmed, but you can install an LED dimmer between the transformer and the light source as normal . This transformer does not whine, which means this transformer is silent even with dimmers. Many LED transformers have a slight whine when using an LED dimmer. The whine occurs when the light output is about 80% and it is an annoying sound if you have a sensitive ear. This transformer is quiet.
Advantages: safe, quality at a reasonable price, carefree
According to the technical specifications of this LED transformer, it is not intended to be used in so-called no-load mode. The transformer –> dimmer –> strip described above is a permitted installation method.
LED transformer installation
This LED transformer is suitable for 24 V DC LED strips, for example . The power is enough for about 29 meters of COB CC 8.6W LED strip, for example. Regarding safety, there is overheating protection, short circuit protection, overvoltage protection and overload protection. Of these, short circuit and overload protection work on the power cut principle. This means that in a problem situation, the LED transformer starts to cut off the power and it makes the lights flicker. The power cut continues until the fault is removed. Overheating protection and overvoltage protection cut off the power from the 24 volt side –> the lights go out. The lights can be turned on by turning the power on again after the transformer has cooled down and/or the overload has been removed.
The protections also work in a similar way in other high-quality LED transformers. The transformer cools itself with the air that circulates around it, so install it in a place where warm air can mix with the surrounding air. It is therefore not a good idea to place the transformer in a sealed enclosure where the air cannot circulate. A good place in the kitchen is, for example, on top of the upper cabinets.
Sufficient LED transformer power
The maximum power of this LED transformer is a comfortable 320 watts and the operating voltage is 24 volts. When you are thinking about a suitable transformer for an LED installation, it is worth taking a slightly more powerful LED transformer than what the maximum load will be. We have a good blog post about choosing LED transformers and their powers and it can be found here. The power of this transformer is enough for about 80% load, for example:
Max for approx. 29 meters for 8.6W COB CC LED strip
Max for approx. 12 meters for 12W Premium COB LED strip
Typically, LED transformers of this power are used for installations of more powerful LED strips. You can have LED strips of different power following one transformer. For example, you can have this 320W LED transformer and 2 or 3 1x8A wireless receivers and then groups of LED strips no. 1, no. 2 and no. 3. This way you can make 3 groups. You don’t necessarily need separate transformers.
Other information:
- Splash-proof LED transformer
- Passive cooling (no fan)
- Built-in active PFC
- Conductors on the supply and secondary side
- Regarding safety, there is overload protection, short circuit protection, overvoltage protection, overheating protection (i.e. everything that can be)
- This is not intended to be used in so-called no-load mode, i.e. when unloaded.
- Can be connected to constant current
- Suitable for dry rooms, damp rooms and wet spaces
- Suitable for indoor and outdoor LED installations
Dimensions and connection instructions:
The general safety distance for LED transformers to surrounding materials is 25 mm above and to the sides. When considering where to install the transformer, make sure there is enough space around it. A transformer with this power will heat up if there is a lot of load. Install the transformer in a place where the transformer has room to cool down and where you can access it if necessary. If there is a place for the transformer, for example near a maintenance hatch, then checking it is an easy task.
You can add a plug to this transformer if needed. Plugs can be found in our LED connectors product group.
