Create a decorative star ceiling with 216 end-emitting optical fibers and a powerful 6000K CREE LED light engine.

The LEDTEK 216-fiber star ceiling kit is a complete fiber optic lighting system for bedrooms, living spaces, saunas, spa areas and other interior ceiling installations. With 216 individual light points, this version is ideal for larger ceilings or projects where a denser star field is desired.

The kit includes the LED light engine, 216 optical fibers, 12 V power supply, RF remote control, twinkle wheel, decorative crystals and installation accessories.

216 optical fibers for a dense star ceiling

The kit contains 216 optical fibers, each 5 meters long:

• 200 × 0.75 mm optical fibers
• 16 × 1.5 mm optical fibers

Using two fiber diameters creates stars of different apparent sizes and gives the finished ceiling a more natural and varied appearance.

The fibers are end-emitting, meaning that the light is guided through the fiber and appears mainly at the cut end. This makes them ideal for creating individual points of light in a ceiling.

6000K CREE LED light engine

The included fiber optic light engine uses a 6000K white CREE XP-G LED.

The light engine is supplied with a 12 V plug-in power supply.

Adjustable twinkle effect and dimming

The included RF remote control allows you to:

• switch the light on and off
• adjust the brightness
• start or stop the twinkle effect

The mechanical twinkle wheel creates subtle variation in the brightness of the individual stars.

The system can also be switched on and off using a normal wall switch when the power supply is connected to a switched mains outlet.

The selected operating settings are retained, so the remote control does not need to be used every time the star ceiling is switched on.

An optional multi-colour twinkle wheel can also be used instead of the standard white twinkle wheel. The colour wheel can be stopped at a selected colour.

Suitable for sauna star ceilings

The optical fibers can be installed in sauna ceilings because no electricity is carried through the fibers themselves.

The LED light engine and its power supply are IP20 devices and must be installed in a suitable dry location outside the hot and humid sauna environment.

For fiber points located directly above the sauna heater, we recommend using a suitable decorative crystal or sauna lens to protect and finish the end of the fiber.

The decorative crystal assembly uses heat-resistant adhesive rated up to approximately 130°C.

The package includes 16 decorative crystals for the thicker 1.5 mm fibers.

The standard crystal is the Classic model.

Available crystal styles include:

You can request a different crystal style or a mixture of different models in the order comments. If no preference is specified, the kit is supplied with Classic crystals.

The crystals are primarily designed for the 1.5 mm fibers. Smaller 0.75 mm fibers can also be installed into a crystal fitting, including multiple fibers in one crystal when the fitting is modified accordingly.

Installation and cutting the fibers

The optical fibers can be cut to the required length.

A practical installation method is to leave approximately 10–15 cm of fiber extending below the finished ceiling panel during installation. Secure the fiber from the rear side of the panel with a small amount of suitable adhesive.

After the ceiling has been completed, cut the fibers flush with the visible surface.

For the cleanest cut, use a sharp cutting tool that does not crush or flatten the end of the optical fiber.

For an evenly illuminated star ceiling, avoid unnecessary differences in fiber length. Shorter fibers can appear brighter than longer fibers because less light is lost along the fiber.

How many stars do I need?

This kit creates 216 individual fiber optic light points.

The 216-fiber version is suitable for larger ceilings or installations where a denser and more detailed star pattern is desired. The higher fiber count also gives more freedom when creating constellations, clusters and irregular star patterns.

For smaller projects, LEDTEK also offers kits with fewer optical fibers. For very large ceilings or especially dense installations, larger fiber counts are available.

What is an end-emitting optical fiber?

Optical fibers used for decorative lighting can generally be divided into end-emitting and side-emitting types.

End-emitting fibers guide the light toward the end of the fiber, producing a clearly defined point of light. This is the type used in LEDTEK star ceiling kits.

Side-emitting fibers also emit light along the length of the fiber and are typically used for applications such as illuminated curtains and decorative light strands.

For a traditional star ceiling, end-emitting fibers provide the desired individual star effect.

Yes. The optical fibers can be installed in a sauna ceiling. The LED light engine and power supply must remain outside the hot and humid sauna environment in a suitable dry installation location.

Q: Can fibers be installed in sauna ceiling?
Answer: Yes they can. Above the sauna heater/stove it is recommended to cover the fibers either with crystals or sauna lens. When crystals are used, the weakest link is the glue used in the crystal and it is heat resistant up to 130°C. The crystal can withstand pretty high temperatures. The crystals are originally meant for the thicker 1,5 mm fibers. If you’d like extra crystals you can also use the thinner fibers. You can put for example one, two or even three of those in one crystal. The hole size of the fitting piece needs to be increased if you put more fibers in but that should be no problem for a handyman.

Q: Are fibers cutable?
A: Yes they are and it is common to cut some or all of them. During installation bring the fibers 10-15 cm below the ceiling paneling and apply a little bit of glue on the topside of the panel around the fiber. Finally, cut the fibers on level with ceiling by using round-cutting cutter (flat cutters tend to press and damage the end of especially the thicker fibers). It is usually recommendable to leave the fibers somewhat evenly long for the whole project so that the starlit sky looks evenly lit. 1 meter long fibers are brighter than 5 meter long fibers.

Optical fiber is either an end-to-end or a side-lighting product. End-to-end lighting models have a coating that directs the light towards the other end of the fiber. Side-lighting models do not have this coating which is why the fibers will also light up from the side. Side-lighting fibers are used for example in situations such as when lighting curtains are created with optical fibers. Starlight sets by Ledtek are end-to-end lighting models. On the enchanting video below you can see how the fibers direct the light towards the other end. The video has been recorded in Finland and there are 316 fibers in this particular project.
