Dimmable 12 Volt LED Downlight

This is the one! 12 Volt 5W LED downlight that is dimmable with an LED dimmer. You can create a stylish and modern general lighting in both new buildings and renovations. Thanks to CRI90 LEDs the quality of light is excellent and color of the light is a comfortable warm white 3000K. Due to excellent quality of light, skin looks natural, color of clothes looks right and it’s comfortable to spend time in such a space. Quality of light has a great impact on comfort!

Quality of light matters

Color Rendering Index (CRI) tells you how well different colors are reflected by the light source in comparison to sunlight. Index measured in range 0–100. Perfect 100 tells that the colors under the light source look the same as they would be under natural sunlight.

High CRI value is important especially at home, in photography, stores, markets, restaurants and other spaces where you want colors to look natural and rich. It is comfortable to spend time in a high-quality-lit spaces. Wellbeing increases. High quality of light is somewhat like a fast Internet connection. When you get used to it you don’t want to switch to worse anymore.

Measuring CRI value requires a special type of light tester. We have such a device. The color rendering index (CRI) of this LED downlight is over 80 and it means that the quality of light is good.

Dimmable 12 Volt LED downlight

Dimming the light can be done with a triac-dimmable LED driver that is compatible with most LED dimmers available in Finland. Compatible dimmers for example in ABB and Schneider selection. You can dim the lights in the range of 10% – 100%. The included LED driver will not make a squeaking or buzzing sound when dimmed and the light will not flicker. Correctly chosen dimmer will not make any kind of sound.

Other compatible dimmers are available for sure. The plastic cover of ABB dimmer fits on the first dimmer in the list.

Another option is to make the dimming on the 12 Volt side, in other words after the driver. In that case there are budget-friendly wireless LED dimmers available from pro or premium series.

What do I need for installations?

You will need the lights and a certified electrician. Technical details recommend 60-70 mm mounting hole. The diameter of the frame is 80 mm. Make a smaller hole than that to ensure the hole can be covered. The height of the light is 39 mm and an additional recommended cooling space of 25 mm. Unlike other LED downlights this one is a 12 Volt LED downlight. If you need for example 4 pcs of these = 4 x 5W = 20W and if you want to make them as one group you are going to need one LED driver. For example 30W 12V POS, 1 piece. These are a suitable replacement for 12V halogen lights and you will save on your electricity bill.

Safety

Regarding safety the most important part in LED installations is a safe-to-use LED driver. We have several dimmable and non-dimmable CE approved LED drivers. Suitable LED drivers for this downlight are available here.

12 Volts

Yes, you can use these as a replacement for 12 Volt halogen lights to create a general lighting out of LEDs. You already have a low-voltage cabling on the ceiling. You will need new LED drivers and these 12 Volt LED downlights.

What if the light breaks down?

The downlight and driver are replaceable. The LEDs inside the downlight cannot be replaced. Well, of course you can, but it is not worthwhile.
